LIBRARY MATERIALS AND CIRCULATION
The KCS Library/Media Center has, in addition to a fine elementary and junior high print collection of almost 14,000 volumes, an audio listening center for individual and class use; a speakerphone for conference telephone communications with experts in given fields of study; many periodicals of a high interest level; a networked multi-platform interactive computer environment with products such as encyclopedias, almanacs, full text periodicals, and a variety of indices for reference, and the Internet. We have a fully automated and upgraded library automation system for circulation, and a networked Online Public Access Catalog. Students can access the KCS library holdings from their classrooms and from home OPAC.
We also have access to statewide pubic library automated Online Public Access Catalogs. We house a Professional Library for staff and for parents. In conjunction with the Kent AIDS Awareness Group and the Northwest Connecticut AIDS Project, we are a repository for educational resources for AIDS awareness. In addition, there is a student work exhibition screen, which is changed monthly and used by all classes to display art projects, talking exhibits, and other student work. At any given time we can seat thirty for classroom instruction; ten for the audio listening center; accommodate another ten for work study or sixty for programming. The community is welcome to use our facilities any day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the school day, or by appointment for evening use. Volunteers are welcome!

Students may check out books, periodicals, and non-print media, such as audio and video cassettes for a period of one to two weeks. They may check out as many materials as they wish (unless instructed otherwise by their teachers) and return them at any time during that period. Some reference sources may be circulated overnight, but there is a $25.00 fine if they are not returned by 9:00 a.m. the following morning. Students may also avail themselves of Summer Circulation whereby they may check out materials for the summer. All materials may be renewed.
