     Arbor Day Celebration - April 27, 2001

Kent is so lucky! We have TREES and we have the Kent Conservation Commission, which cares about our environment and especially about TREES. This year, the Kent Conservation Commission and the Kent Greenhouse gave a gift of ten Apple TREES to ten Kent Center School students who in some way recognized TREES as special too.

Also during library class Grade three researched TREES, climbed a TREE by the library, read stories of TREES, wrote a Haiku about TREES, and even voted online for American's National Tree.

As part of the program Grade 3 recited a collective poem they wrote after climbing a TREE. The poem was fashioned after David McCord's Every Time I Climb a Tree.

Michael, Grade 3 received an apple tree, as his understanding of a book entitled Aani and the Tree Huggers was most impressive. He offered, "This book is about a girl who will not let ANY BOY cut down trees!"

Mrs. Amorosa and Mr. Coffill showcased student work during an all school program. Grade three, began the program by holding up their illustrated folders with the words "Grade 3 Loves Trees," which they made in library class.
