| On the day of the exam, two 7th grade German students representing the Lufthansa flight staff picked up the sixth graders from their homeroom for an imaginary flight to Frankfurt, Germany. | |||||||||||

| On arrival at the Rhein-Main Flughafen, students collected their “luggage” which consisted of their passports, several hundred | |||||||||||
| Euros in cash, and a description of the city which was to be their final destination. | |||||||||||
The objective was to get directions from the airport to the train station from someone at the information desk, relay the directions to the taxi driver, purchase a newspaper (to learn more about Frankfurt), purchase a train ticket from Frankfurt to the final destination and finally catch the right train on the right track. They needed to complete all these steps in German and pay with exact change for everything! |

Teamwork,
polite communication, and accurate knowledge of numbers were a must for
this activity. Students waiting in the waiting room checked out brochures
and books about their city while they waited anxiously for the announcement
of the departure of their train. Forty minutes after their landing, all
the students had boarded their trains and were off on an adventure through
Germany. During the remainder of the week, students have written post
cards home to tell family and friends about their experiences. Auf Wiedersehen!
