     "Tall Tales & Heroes"

"Tall Tales and Heroes", by Grace Hawthorne and John F. Wilson, was presented by this year's third and fourth graders on February 14, 2002. The students enjoyed learning the lyrics of the upbeat songs and laughed over the larger-than-life tales of some of the "heroes".

Directors David Poirier and Lee Sohl were impressed with how quickly this group of students learned their lines.

The play began with a song that has the cast asking the audience to decide whether the characters are "real or are they make-believe?" George Washington, Molly Pitcher, and Calamity Jane stood side by side with Pecos Bill, Slue Foot Sue, and John Henry for some mighty tall tales. The chorus, besides helping to carry the tunes, kept the actors in line by asking such questions as "How tall was she?" and "How wet was it?" throughout the show.

The show was a success, and everyone learned a little American history with a pinch of exaggeration and a lot of fun!
