THIRD GRADERS Experience
The
SKIFF MOUNTAIN
One Room
Schoolhouse

On Tuesday, October 8, 2002,
Mrs. Makarewich's and Mrs. O'Callaghan's third grade students, along with art teacher Mr. Coffill and foreign language teacher Mrs. Vega, traveled to Skiff Mountain to visit the one room schoolhouse.

Mrs. McAvoy shared stories about being a student in a classroom that had all the grades together with one teacher. She spoke about lunches being brought in metal pails, earning merit cards for being the most quiet student for a whole week, sharing a dipper for a drink of water, and having your teacher live with you for a week or two.

Each class participated in a bee. One class was challenged to a spelling bee while the other tested their knowledge of math by solving addition word problems.

Mr. Coffill guided the children in creating a sketch of the exterior of the schoolhouse and its surroundings.

The students found it delightful to travel back in time on a glorious fall afternoon.
