Kent Center School - Principal's Report
Kent Board of Education Meeting - February, 2010
Dr. Rima McGeehan
ENROLLMENT: 286 January was filled with much progress made in many areas critical to Kent Center School, including preliminary budget preparations. A detailed report will be shared by the budget subcommittee at the February Board of Education Meeting. Progress has also been made with a discipline committee that I formed about two months ago. We have been meeting regularly and are focused on areas such as bullying, student responsibilities, violations, and homework policies. A draft of this work is close to completion and will be shared at an upcoming meeting. Rachel D’Ambrosio worked with sixth through eighth graders to prepare for this year’s Geography Bee. This year’s winner was Ryan Nadire. He has taken a test to see if he qualifies for the state level, and we are awaiting the results. Regional Chorus and Regional Band have been under the direction of David Poirier and Sandra Kleisner. There will be a regional concert here on Monday, February 8, at 10:00 a.m. The PTO also hosted a Game Night, which was very successful. It was well-attended, and families spent time playing games together and even purchased some for home. I wanted to compliment the efforts of this new PTO group to make KCS the best it can be! Lastly, the Kent Center School art exhibit, on display at the Kent Memorial Library, was visited by many students, parents, and community members throughout the month of January. The work produced by Al Coffiill and his students was admired and praised. I can’t tell you how many times I heard the comment, “I wish I could take one of these works home!”
