Kent Center School - Principal's Report
Kent Board of Education Meeting - December 3, 2009

Dr. Rima McGeehan

ENROLLMENT: 284

November started off on a musical note with David Poirier’s and Lee Sohl’s work with the third and fourth grade students. Their production of “Stone Soup” was a big hit for the school, staff, parents, and community.  Congratulations to David Poirier and his wife, Tricia, as they welcomed a new daughter, Sophia Elizabeth, as a Thanksgiving blessing.

Parent conferences and the Scholastic Book Fair both went well mid-month. Positive feedback was received on the meetings teachers had with parents, and some holiday book shopping was completed. Thank you to the PTO for organizing this event.

Monica Rodriguez and her student leadership group were also busy this month with their diaper drive (We collected over 2000 diapers for our local community!), collecting goods to be sent overseas, writing holiday mail for our troops, and taking the lead with our Thanksgiving Share program, which ended with our traditional Turkey Song and Dance!

Congratulations to Kori Rimany and Billy Hoadley, who were the recipients of this year’s Litchfield County Superintendent’s Award. We honored them at the Cornucopia Restaurant in Torrington.

Our basketball season has started. The girls’ team is being coached by Debbie Morin, and the boys’ team is coached by Alex Baker.  Best of luck to both teams!

It is hard to believe it is already the end of the year 2009!  The Kent Center School community has continued to bring me much warmth and support in my role here as principal. May you all be blessed with health and happiness this holiday season and in the new year!
