Kent Center School - Principal's Report
Kent Board of Education Meeting - February 5, 2009

Dr. Rima Zelvis

ENROLLMENT: 287

January was filled with much progress made in many areas critical to Kent Center School, including budget, healthy choices, and enrichment committee meetings. Details will be shared at the February Board of Education Meeting.

This year’s Geography Bee winner was sixth grader Chris Moore. Chris has also taken a test to see if he qualifies for the state level, and we are awaiting the results.  We congratulate him on his win!

Stephen Langley, Director of Outreach, at Mountainside, in Canaan, presented his first Parent Forum last month. The response was very positive, and we look forward to continued collaborations for our seventh and eighth grade students and parents.

Regional Chorus and Regional Band have been under the direction of David Poirier and Sandra Kleisner. There will be a regional concert here at the school on Monday, February 9, 2009.

One of my most memorable experiences thus far at Kent Center School was the Mother-Daughter basketball game held at the end of January. The turnout was terrific, and the cause was special and dear to many families.

Plans are in the works for a home-school celebration recognizing Abraham Lincoln. Close to 50 families submitted an essay about someone that their families considers heroic, displaying many of the same qualities as our 16th presidents. These will be displayed in a quilt format in the front hallway. We will also honor him in a tribute on Thursday, February 12, at 10:00 a.m. All are invited to attend.
