     "The Music Man"

Approximately 140 students in grades 4 through 8 performed in "The Music Man" on April 5, 2002. "The Music Man", a much beloved classic, is the story of Harold Hill, a salesman who comes to the town of River City, Iowa in the year 1912. He convinces the town to let him start a band to stop the corruption of their young people. The trouble is, he doesn't know the first thing about music and plans to skip town as soon as the well-meaning townspeople pay him for the musical instruments.
Harold has pulled this con game in many other towns, and is confident he will enjoy another brief, but profitable, adventure in River City. He soon encounters a bumbling mayor and a young boy named Winthrop, who is completely enamored of him. He also meets a pretty piano teacher named Marian who begins to suspect that Harold is not all he says he is.
Just as the whole town discovers what he is up to, Marian saves the day by falling madly in love with Harold, and Harold, who falls madly in love with her, has a change of heart and makes good on his promises.
Music teacher Lois Fiftal directed the play, with Lee Sohl assisting. David Poirier taught the fourth grade band their song and played along, too. The actors and chorus performed many memorable songs including "Wells Fargo Wagon", "Good Night, My Someone", "Shipoopi", and the main theme song, "Seventy-Six Trombones".
