HVRHS Student Report to KCS Board - Brittany Harvey

Mark Burdick and Karen Davenport, Co-Chairs of the Ag-Ed Department gave a presentation on the Agricultural Education Program’s future needs and trends, and “action plans” recommended by the State Department of Education Compliance Review. The Agricultural Education Advisory Council commended the accomplishments of the Ag-Ed Department. Mrs. Ruotolo reported that the Ag-Ed Department has begun their Annual Christmas sales.

Mr. David Bayersdorfer, Athletic Director’s report highlighted the successful fall sports season with winning the Berkshire Bowl football game. 170 athletes have signed up for  winter sports. The 1960 Gym is used by 6 teams. It also may be time to look into additional gym space.

 Mr. Herrick reported on the need to replace the HVRHS gym floor, the cost, and budgetary impact and asked the Board to consider establishing a Reserve Fund  for capital maintenance projects.
Mr. Herrick also spoke briefly on the RSSC and Pupil Services Budgets 2008-2009. Budget workshops will be held December 11, 2007, 4:00 p.m. RSSC & Pupil Serv, Wednesday, January 9, 2008, 4:30 p.m. HVRHS budget and Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 4:00 p.m. HVRHS budget  at HVRHS Library.
Mr. Herrick described the benefits of hiring a school transportation consultant to assist in developing a bid contract for solicitation to bus companies. The Board authorized the Administration to hire a transportation consultant to assist in developing bid specifications for a regional bus contract.

The Region One Board showed interest in attending an All Boards meeting in the Spring.

Mrs. Terry, Special Education, reported on the state reimbursement changes pertaining to per pupil costs for special needs students.

Mrs. Halle reported that the Long Range Feasibility Committee has scheduled two meetings for January 24, 2008 and February 20, 2008. Kent representation will be Jenny Casey, Priscilla Lenz, and Dana Slaughter.   

Assistant Superintendent, Tom Gaisford reported on the Science Teachers’ and Social Studies Teachers’ meetings and planning for professional development for 2008.  Now posting curriculum on school networks will enable teachers to collaborate and integrate  their courses.  Teacher Supervision Training will be more systematic, with more uniformed teaching diminishing isolated teaching practices.

The Board approved the field trip submitted by  Mike DeMazza to Italy and Greece, July 1-2008 through July 10, 2008.
