June 4, 2007 The Board received a presentation of the Mathematics program by department chairperson Scott Fellows. Three years of math is required for graduation. The HVRHS curriculum supports the opportunity for students at all four academic levels to take four years of math. Board member Amanda Halle reported that RFPs for a moderator/facilitator of the newly formed Long Range Planning Feasibility Committee are due by June 8. Comprised of board members, administrators and faculty members, this committee will focus on a long-range plan for the high school and regional issues such as pupil services and RSSC. Superintendent Chamberlain granted a one-year parenting leave to Teresa Jacquier of the AgEd department. Molly Amorozaitis has been hired as her replacement. The Board received the resignation of Sarah Nicholson, special education at Sharon Center School. Assistant Superintendent Thomas Gaisford reported that there are three positions not yet filled at HVRHS: math, science and music. Director of Pupil Services Theresa Terry reported that notice of a new due process hearing was recently received. Dr. Foster reported that the high school administration has organized a student/administration advisory council to provide school leadership. She reported that a new grading system would be implemented beginning in September 2007 that is similar to that of colleges. Rather than a numerical grade, a letter grade with corresponding GPA (grade point average) will be issued. The Board will host a picnic for the faculty and staff in recognition of their contributions to the education of students in Region 1 on August 28. Philip Hart of Cornwall was elected vice-chairman to fill the vacancy created by my resignation.
