Region One Board of Education
January 2007 Report to KCS Board

December 19 , 2006

On January 24 the State Department of Education will visit HVRHS (Housatonic Valley Regional High School) to review the Agricultural/Science education programs.

The Board received the preliminary Pupil Services and Regional School Services Center (RSSC) budgets, indicating a significant increase in costs for special education (15% or $625,000), mostly a result of an increased number of students requiring education services out of the district.

The New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the regional accrediting association for high standards in education (www.neasc.org), have confirmed their
10-year accreditation visit for March 11 – 14. Board interviews will take place on Sunday, March 11.

The administration and faculty of HVRHS are discussing the proposal of increasing the science graduation requirements from 2 to 3 years.

The Board approved a parenting leave for Assistant Principal Dr. Buchanan, whose expected maternity due date is April 2007.

The Board unanimously voted to dedicate the HVRHS track to science teacher and track coach David Lindsay.
