Kent Center School's location on the banks of the Housatonic River affords science students the opportunity to study an interesting ecosystem firsthand. Throughout the year, the 5th grade science classes have been studying the ecology of the river.

Periodically, the classes have taken trips to collect water samples and complete other studies. Since nearby Macedonia Brook feeds into the Housatonic River, the classes joined an Ecology class from the prep school across the river, Kent School, in a trip to Macedonia Brook State Park in May. Among other activities, the students searched for invertebrates on their "most wanted" list as an indicator that the brook is a healthy one. They are pleased to report that Macedonia Brook passed with flying colors.
