![]() The 2001 MATH FAIR was presented on May 11. Grades 1 through 8 were invited to the exciting gathering of math ideas. The fifth graders were presented with the problem of creating a game that involved the use of mathematics. ![]() The catch was to invent a new game that would somehow show math being used in a fun and exciting manner. Board games, electrical games, toss games, computer games, games of chance, and card games were but a few of the wonderful inventions initiated by fifth grade students. ![]() Starting with a blueprint, each student was challenged to make math fun and exciting while also teaching basic skills in mathematics. As the year progressed, students were allowed to share some of the games that were presented in class as well as some that were presented by other students. This all culminated in a brief speech by each of the inventors, describing the game and the main objective. ![]() All of the inventors created their own awards, certificates, and prizes for students who dared to play their games. The terrific feeling of sharing, good sportsmanship, and learning math made this an extraordinary experience. ![]() ![]() |
