During library class in February, Mrs. Ciccone’s fourth grade homeroom prepared for the Jump Rope for Heart by reading, sharing and practicing jump rope rhymes in small groups.

After discussing how jump rope rhymes are a form of poetry, the children browsed through jump rope rhyme books with the goal of selecting a rhyme to share with their classmates.

Once all of the groups selected their rhymes, they performed them for their peers in the library silo.

Next, Miss Morrow surprised the children by giving them each a jump rope. The students spread out in the library river and practiced jumping to the rhymes they had selected.

Before Miss Morrow dismissed the class, the groups took time to pose with their jump rope rhyme books.

When the students participated in the actual Jump Rope for Heart,
Miss Perotti had their poems hanging at one of the stations for all of the participants to use.
