The second grade sponsored a program called Earth Day Groceries Project. Students from all across the world participate in this program that teams up grocers and students to protect our planet. The Davis IGA donated bags for the students in our school to decorate with colorful messages that encourage people to do things to save the earth.
The second graders presented the program and delivered the bags to each class.
The entire school participated in the project. The students and staff loved decorating the bags. Approximately 300 bags were decorated with wonderful artwork and environmental messages such as “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”, “Recycling Rules”, “Green is the New Black”, and “Give a Squirrel a Home, Plant a Tree.”
On April 18th the second graders took a walk to the IGA to return the bags just in time for Earth Day.
The second graders presented the bags to Mr. Davis and thanked him for making the project possible.
After their walk,
the students enjoyed a
cool treat.
The bags were a HUGE hit! The customers who received the bags enjoyed the students’ messages
and artwork. The bags were so popular, the IGA ran out before many customers could get one.
Kent Center School submitted a participation report on the Earth Day Groceries Project website. The report documents our school’s commitment to the environment as we join the online community of thousands of schools worldwide who are doing their part to protect our world’s natural resources.
