Kent Center School Welcomes Author Judi Barrett!

Author Judi Barrett visited Kent Center School on April 8, 2005. The second graders were very excited to meet this talented author! They prepared for her visit by reading many of her wonderful books and responding to the literature through discussions, writing, and
beautiful art work
.

The library was decorated to resemble the town of ChewandSwallow from Ms. Barrett’s famous book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Food art created by the children was literally “falling” from the sky!

Two giant towers of carrots welcomed visitors into the library.

Ms. Barrett shared her experiences as an author and read two of her books while the children listened attentively. She answered questions about her life, explained how a book becomes published, and showed examples.

The children then presented the projects they had created.

Ms. Barrett enjoyed all the work the second graders had accomplished and presented special gifts to them. Each child received an activity placemat of Pickles to Pittsburgh and an autographed bookmark.

Parent volunteers helped to make the day a success by assisting the children, laminating the bookmarks, and taking photographs.

This special event concluded with an outside picnic lunch. Later, the children wrote thank you letters to everyone who helped make the day special.
