Fourth grade students from Region One gathered in the Walker Auditorium at The Hotchkiss School to enjoy the 11th annual Arts Day sponsored by The Arts Fund for Region One.

The day began with a showcase performance by
“Cello Man,” Eugene Friesen.

Following this performance, students went off to various workshops in visual art, dance, music, or drama. One favorite was the Polymer Clay session taught by Karin Noyes where students used their imaginations to create colorful creatures.

Students enjoyed painting and printing their own watercolor monoprints with Hotchkiss art instructor Charles Noyes.

Lisa Jones instructed students in the art of creating Ukrainian Eggs using wax and dyes.

Everyone returned to the auditorium for lunch and a show performed by puppeteer Michael Wolski.

After lunch students had an opportunity to take part in a workshop in a different discipline from what they had in the morning. Native American music filled the hall thanks to Paul Gemme’s flute making.

A quieter but no less exciting workshop on Origami taught by Jane Capellero enthralled the students.

Joel Shapira’s “Room With a View” workshop enabled students to construct three-dimensional representations of a favorite.

To wrap up the day students assembled one last time in the auditorium for the final showcase.
Magbana filled the hall with the sights and sounds of
African drumming and dancing.

Once again thanks to the Arts Fund for Region One students had the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the variety to be found in the arts and left with a lasting memory of a very special day.
