     5th Grade embarks on ........

 

 


This year the students in Mrs. Darby’s 5th grade math class have explored a variety of topics through challenges, including estimation. In this challenge, the students worked together to estimate how long it would take to walk from KCS to a designated location in Torrington. The groups could use any tool in the classroom, except the teacher.		  
  Students discussed and debated for two class periods on the best methods for completing the challenge.
         
     




Once students calculated the amount of time it would take to walk to Torrington, they then had to make it a real life situation by including rest stops and other breaks.

    
     
   
 

In the end, these 5th graders discovered it would take between 11 and 15 hours to walk to their destinations. Thank goodness for modern transportation!
