Mrs. Ackerman’s first grade students read about, study, cut out, and paint giant monarch butterflies every fall.
The yearly project takes one week and involves many steps. The students cut out the wings and paint the orange section first. The wings dry overnight. Black paint is added next. The wings dry overnight. The white wing dots, in pairs, are added using white chalk. Now students use markers to draw faces on the egg carton heads. Colorful pipe cleaners are chosen and threaded through the egg cartons to make antennas. Wings and heads are stapled together and the monarchs are ready
to fly. |
