Although the novels were varied, Mrs. Sohl gave the same reading project to all the students. Their assignment was to pretend to be a salesperson trying to sell eighth grade teachers (the other students in the class) their book. They had to support their sales pitch with a book review, skit, book cover, game or PowerPoint presentation to help convince the "teachers" that their book was worth purchasing. The “teachers”, in turn, filled out evaluation sheets on each presenter. The evaluation required decisions about whether the content, interest level and reading level were appropriate for eighth grade, and if they planned to “buy” the book for their class. |

Three eighth graders read Granny Torrelli Makes Soup, by Sharon Creech. Although all three students enjoyed the book, the “teachers” felt that it was too easy for their grade level. |
