June 2004

Dear Parents,

Kent Center School is participating in Connecticut Reads – The 2004 Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge . This annual program encourages students to keep a list of the books they read during summer vacation. This includes audio books, read-alouds, and independently read books.

As a participating school, we are asking KCS students to record the authors and titles of the books they read this summer. They may keep track on the enclosed SUMMER READING JOURNAL or on a regular sheet of paper. Students participating in Kent Memorial Library’s summer reading program may use the record provided at registration to log their reading. Adults or older siblings may write down the information for younger children.

We will collect student book lists when we return to school in September. Once we tally the results, we will report our reading success to Governor Rowland. We know KCS readers will produce amazing results!

Classroom teachers and I created the reading lists to help families guide their summer reading choices. You should consider the reading level of your child when selecting from the list. Some choices may be more appropriate than others. The town library has offered to make the titles available in the junior library. Be sure to check out its summer reading display.

Happy Reading,
