School Spirit Day - Wear Something to Represent a State!

On November 12, 2004 students and staff had fun wearing an article of clothing to represent a state.

They tried to find something to represent an obscure state, one that maybe no one else would have. The goal was to have each of the 50 states represented. There was a wonderful variety of souvenir shirts, college sweatshirts and team shirts or hats. Each homeroom tallied their results, and the 4th graders collected the information to get results for the entire school.

They discovered some interesting facts about the day:

206 people in the building participated by wearing something
to represent a state.

They wore clothing from 40 different states.

New York was the state most often selected.

The next step was to create a large bar graph on which to display this information.

Each student was responsible for collecting the data and creating the bar for two states. This was done with colorful Post-it notes and lined paper.

The students were surprised
to find out just how tall some
of the bars had to be!
